The Suncadia Story

The Story of Us: Suncadia’s Journey Through Time

As Suncadia celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025, we reflect on our rich history and exciting future as the premier year-round mountain resort community in the Pacific Northwest. Located just 80 miles east of Seattle in the stunning Cascade Mountains, Suncadia has grown from a vision into a thriving community that seamlessly blends nature, luxury, and adventure. This milestone is marked by significant investment, with over $40 million dedicated to enhancing our amenities and residential communities. The ambitious growth plan includes the recent $4 million renovation of The Lodge at Suncadia and the upcoming debut of Suncadia Social, a vibrant community hub set to open in 2026. These transformative projects further enrich our community, creating vibrant new spaces for residents and guests alike.

Our journey from past to present is a testament to the enduring spirit of this land and its people. The Suncadia story began long before its inception, rooted in the rugged beauty of the Cascades and the pioneering spirit of those who came before us. As we look to the future with exciting developments on the horizon, we remain committed to preserving the natural splendor that surrounds us. Out of our 6,400 acres, only 2,000 will ever be developed, ensuring that the breathtaking landscapes and pristine wilderness that define Suncadia will be enjoyed for generations to come. This commitment to conservation, coupled with our innovative approach to modern mountain living, creates a unique blend of history and progress that defines the Suncadia experience.

A Mining Heritage

The region’s history dates back to the late 19th century when coal mining became a dominant industry. The nearby town of Roslyn was a major hub for coal mining, with the Northwestern Improvement Company operating several mines. This era left behind a legacy of resilience and community spirit. The #9 Mine ruins can still be found throughout the property.

From Mines to Mountains

In the late 20th century, the area began its transformation from industrial mining to a thriving resort destination, embracing the natural beauty of the Cascade Mountains. Suncadia emerged from this vision, initially known as “MountainStar,” with a goal to create an upscale resort and private enclave, Tumble Creek, that harmonized with its stunning surroundings. The development focused on outdoor recreation, golf courses, visitor accommodations, and residential neighborhoods, all designed to complement the pristine wilderness. Today, Suncadia spans 6,400 acres, with an impressive 80% preserved as open space, offering a serene escape where nature takes center stage. This commitment to conservation allows guests and residents to immerse themselves in the region’s diverse ecosystems, from lush forests to sparkling rivers. By integrating nature into every aspect of life, Suncadia fosters a holistic wellness experience that combines the tranquility of traditional spa experiences with the invigorating thrill of hiking and biking through miles of trails, creating a unique retreat that rejuvenates both body and spirit amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Cascades.
