Building Community, Protecting Nature: Our Commitment to Sustainability and Stewardship

At Suncadia, our vision is rooted in the belief that a thriving community and a healthy environment are interconnected. We are committed to being responsible stewards of the land, ensuring that the natural beauty and resources of Kittitas County are preserved for future generations. Our mission extends beyond providing exceptional experiences for our guests; it encompasses a deep responsibility to enhance the quality of life for all who call this region home. We strive to create a sustainable and vibrant community by actively engaging with local organizations, supporting conservation efforts, and fostering a sense of belonging among residents. Through our initiatives, we aim to inspire others to join us in protecting our remarkable landscapes while also uplifting the diverse voices within our community.

Kittitas Conservation Trust

Suncadia actively supports the Kittitas Conservation Trust (KCT), an organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the region’s natural landscapes and critical habitats. The Trust engages in various initiatives, such as habitat restoration projects, conservation easements, and sustainable land management practices that benefit both wildlife and local ecosystems.

Suncadia Fund for Community Enhancement

In addition to our partnership with the KCT, the Suncadia Fund for Community Enhancement, aims to create vibrant community experiences across Suncadia and its neighboring areas, including Roslyn and Cle Elum. This fund supports a wide range of activities designed to improve social, cultural, economic, and environmental conditions.

Local Organizations

Moreover, we pride ourselves on being good neighbors to local organizations like HopeSource and Habitat for Humanity, collaborating with them on various initiatives that empower individuals and strengthen our community. We also extend our support to numerous other local organizations that share our commitment to enhancing the well-being of Kittitas County residents. Through these collective efforts, Suncadia remains dedicated to nurturing a thriving environment where all can enjoy a high quality of life while respecting the natural beauty of this remarkable region.

Conservation

Have you ever wondered how the natural beauty of the Cle Elum Valley and surrounding areas in Kittitas County is being conserved? It is due, in part, to a decades-long commitment to land conservation by Suncadia.

In 2000, Suncadia, in collaboration with The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation (Yakama Nation), the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), agreed to preserve approximately 1240-acres of the Cle Elum River Corridor as open space and pursue a “no net loss” policy of productive fish and wildlife habitat in connection with the development. Now approximately 3,400 areas were designated as River Corridor, Natural Open Space, and Managed Open Space in conservation easements with the KCT. The KCT is a non-profit land conservation organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the fish and wildlife habitat in the upper Yakima River basin.

Suncadia actively manages its forests following a Land Stewardship Plan (LSP), which describes general forest management as well as individual stand descriptions and recommendations for management actions in the different stands of trees. Its intent is to manage forest lands inside Suncadia and Tumble Creek, including those designated Natural Open Space and Managed Open Space, for forest health, wildlife habitat, and fire resiliency. Between the conservation easement and commitment to forest health as outlined in the LSP, Suncadia extended its promise to protect and preserve forest health and wildlife and fish habitats – now and in the future.
