Spotlight on Suncadia Featured Builder: WoodRidge Custom Homes

Building a home in the heart of nature is a dream shared by many but realized only by a few. It’s a labor of love, that comes to fruition not because of one person, but by the collective efforts of like-minded individuals. At Suncadia, we engage with partners who share our vision for the community and help our residents design and build homes that embody their desires. Meet Lynn Roman from WoodRidge Custom Homes.

Tell us about the company, and your journey to becoming a Suncadia Featured Builder.

October 13, 2006 was a special day—it was when WoodRidge custom Homes was born. I had experience working on and building homes in the past, but I was always keen on branching out for myself. Together with my partner Cliff Melby, the company has grown by leaps and bounds, so in just over a decade, we are a name to contend with. Over the course of 14 years, we have helped build more than 80 homes in Tumble Creek and Nelson Preserve.

Even though the homes are all individual designs, what is the common thread that is consistent throughout all WoodRidge Custom Homes?

I think it’s our approach to building homes. Whether we’re building a home for $800k or $1.8M, we have the same philosophy: “Our success as a custom home builder reflects the satisfaction, pride and quality of home for all of our customers”. We don’t just treat clients like commodities; we work with them to make sure each and every detail is perfect, that they see their dreams realized before their eyes. No matter what the job is, we never settle. We work hard to find innovative solutions that are both beautiful and functional, and only breathe easy when we see the client smile with satisfaction. And it isn’t just about the build, but it extends beyond, even into after-build services—it’s about making sure we sustain the relationship.

What is the most important thing you consider when working on a custom home for a client?

I think it’s important to find common ground in terms of vision and personality. I mean, it’s easy to build whatever we’re asked to and move on to the next job, but we really take the time to get to know the client and build on each other’s ideas. This helps us to work together to create a unique home that reflects the individual’s desires but at the same time make sure that the house we design and build uses cutting edge construction techniques and strategic partnerships that provide added value, which in turn sets us apart us from our competitors.

What do you think makes the Suncadia community special?

It’s the kind of place you don’t see very often in today’s world—pristine, untouched, in the heart of nature—and still not that far from the modern world. It’s a full-fledged resort, but it’s home. It’s based on a simple vision but at the same time, it’s a grand view on what life should be like. And all the little touches, the restaurants, trails, golf courses, they all come together to make this a special experience.

What is your vision for the Suncadia community homes you design? How do they differ from the other homes dotting the landscape?

Suncadia is a very special place. The focus it places on modern mountainside living is not something very common, and it’s something that appeals to a wide demographic—our clients look for all sorts of solutions, from classic cabin-style homes to contemporary residences. It’s important not to get swept away in the romance of it all and build a pretty looking home. We actually take a step back to think through all the details. For example, making sure the rainwater is properly drained off, or that the wood finishes are properly treated to withstand the elements. It’s easy to overlook these things, but we actually work them into our design so the magical experience is backed up by logical solutions.
